Radio is the radiation of electromagnetic wavs through space. The major use of radio s to carry information. A radio communication system sends by radio
History of radio
In 1864 James Clerk Maxwell showed mathematically that electromagnetic waves could propagate through free space. The effects of electromagnetic waves were actually observed before and after Maxwell's work by many inventors including Luigi Galvani (1791), Peter Samuel Munk (1835), Joseph Henry (1842), Samuel Alfred Varley (1852), Edwin Houston, Thomas Edison (1875) and David Hughes(1878).
Around 20th century Guglielmo Marconi, developed the first apparatus for long distance radio comunication. On 23rd december 1900, Reginald A.Fessenden became the first person to send audio (wireless telephony) by means of electromagnetic waves, successfully transmitting over a distance of about 2.6kn and 6 years later on christmas eve 1906 he became the first person to make a public radio broadcast.
GUGLIELMO MARCONI
He was an Italian inventor, who showed the uses of radio communication. He send and recieved his first radio signal in 1895.
History of radio in education
U.K started broadcasting in 1922 with initiation of british broadcasting company later BBC. Australia introduced radio education broadcast in 1929. Other countries including U.S.A,Malaysia, Japan, Canada etc started radio broadcasting.
WORKING OF RADIO
Information such as sound is converted into an electromagnetic pulse signal, which is then sent as an electromagnetic radio wave from a transmitter.A reciever intercepts the radio wave and extracts the information-bearing electronic signal, which is converted back using another transducer such as speaker.
uses of radio in education
Radio can spread information to greater group of people and save time , energy, money and manpower in an effective way. Radio is cheap and simple to operate. It helps both developed and developing countries.
Education in India
Education in India by radio is undertaken by All India Radio which is a government Initiative. Broadcast consist of formal, informal and non formal education. It is an objective to broadcast education with information and entertainment.

FOR TEACHERS
AIR arranges separate programmes for teachers. Agencies like CIET, NCERT,SIET,SCERT, teacher training department are involved. Methodology for teaching, child psychology etc are also covered.the objective of the programmes are to familiarize curriculum changes, technology advancements and contents necessary for teaching staff.
MERITS AND DEMERITS
Important happenings, election results, inventions etc can be discussed in classrooms. It also provides student participation in various programmes like quizzes, talk shows. It has wide coverage and is cost effective.
Adequate attention from all listeners cannot be expected, development of material is time consuming and playback, recording equipments are costly.
CONCLUSION
Radio has immense values in developing country like India. Its proper usage and necessary improvements can help to spread education in rural area. It is the duty of teachers to realise the importance and spread the application of radio in the field of education.
